Where it all began

The football side of Cheam Sports has been running since at least the 1970s, long before any of our current teams existed. For many years the club was managed and kept alive by dedicated volunteers who gave their time to youth football in the area.

We are still piecing together the full early history of the club. If you were involved in Cheam Sports in the early days and can help fill in the gaps, we would love to hear from you.

A vision for every age group

Around six or seven years ago, a plan took shape to build a proper pathway for young players in Cheam - starting from Under 7s and running all the way up to Under 18s, with the ambition of one day having a men's team too.

The challenge was that joining the Surrey Youth League required an established club. After months of approaching local teams and exploring every option, the right home was found at Cheam Sports, where there was room for a full pathway starting at Under 7s.

The club started with three teams in the first season. Within three seasons, that had grown to nine teams across Saturday and Sunday football, and the pathway was building exactly as planned.

Five teams, one home ground

Today Cheam Sports FC is an FA Accredited club with 3 active teams competing in the Surrey Youth League, all based at our home ground at Peaches Close in Cheam, Surrey. We have qualified, DBS-checked coaches, a strong community of parents, and a commitment to developing players both on and off the pitch.

What comes next

The original vision has not changed. With plans for a 4G pitch at Peaches Close, the ambition is to reinstate the full pathway from Under 7s through to a men's team, and to build a women's side too. Grassroots football in Cheam is just getting started.
