Safeguarding & welfare.

The welfare of every player comes first at Cheam Sports FC. This page explains how we protect the children in our care, who to contact if you have a concern, and where to find the full policies that govern youth football in England.

Welfare officer

Jon Clough

Jon Clough is the club welfare officer. If you have any concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child at Cheam Sports FC — no matter how small — please make contact directly. You do not need to go through a coach first.

What we do

How we keep players safe

  • DBS-checked coaches. Every coach with regular contact with players holds a valid enhanced DBS check through the FA.
  • FA Accredited Club. We are an FA Accredited Club affiliated with Surrey FA (Org ID: 75435) and follow the full FA safeguarding framework.
  • Safeguarding training. Coaches complete the FA’s Safeguarding Children workshop and renew it every three years.
  • Named welfare officer. Every family has a direct line to a dedicated welfare officer who sits outside the coaching structure.
  • Codes of conduct. Coaches, players, parents and spectators all sign up to written codes of conduct at the start of each season.
  • Photo and video consent. We ask for written consent before any image of a child is published on the club website or social media.
Raising a concern

If something does not feel right

If you are worried about the safety or welfare of a child — yours or anyone else’s — please do not wait. Every concern is taken seriously and handled confidentially.

  1. Contact the welfare officer directly. Email info@cheamsportsfc.com or phone 07791 663913. Describe what happened and when. You do not need to prove anything — raising the concern is enough.
  2. If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 999.
  3. For independent advice, contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 or Childline on 0800 1111. Both are free and confidential.
  4. Escalation. Where necessary, concerns are passed to the Surrey FA Designated Safeguarding Officer and to children’s social care.
